I met my buddy Kurt years ago through my music performance endeavors. Kurt runs Scene Wars Collective and organizes the Anti-Competition showcase cross-country. When I met him he had reached out to me about my band Blackwater Prophecy and ended up booking it and the other band I was a part of at the time which sadly no longer exists.
He lives in Missouri so it was difficult for him to make it out the first time he booked me, but eventually he was able to make it to California when he booked me along with my then band mate for a small show. We got to meet and hang out in San Diego that night which of course solidified the connection as now I had a face to put to the name.
Since then I have even gotten the opportunity to work with Kurt helping him book bands too, but ultimately my schedule didn't allow for his late night calls to discuss bookings... I may be a night owl, but I am not about working remotely at night. In any case I've known him for several years now and he finally made a trip out to visit without the excuse of booking convenience.
Of course he likes to fish and so he insisted on going shore fishing. I wasn't sure how that would go but we squeezed it in there.
Also Alice had just moved back in and she has become friends with Kurt too so it was a great opportunity for the three of us to hang out! We showed Kurt around, took him to Yummy Sushi in Coronado, which he loved, we also dragged him to a thrift shop where we found some treasures... especially for me and my doll collection! Finally after Alice and I stalled long enough we were able to take him shore fishing. Of course we complained most the time about how cold it was even though it was in the 60's which he was laughing at us for considering the climate he comes from.
We made a stop at Dog Beach which did not pan out, then Belmont Park in Mission Beach which was also a fail for shore fishing, and finally made our way up into La Jolla. We found a nice spot but Kurt was unfamiliar with how to shore fish and maneuver through the rocks. He didn't use all his bait which stank up my car later, and he did lose a weight after the line got caught on the jagged rocks and snapped. But it was fun. Only he went fishing since he was the only one who paid for a fishing license and we didn't want to risk it.
It was quite soothing to be by the shore as the sun set. I of course thought about and talked about the Flat Earth, which I have been doing a lot these days. How fascinating to think of the world in terms of it being flat! LOL

Alas the vacation was over and Kurt had to return home. Lately he's had a lot of work as a writer which I am proud of him for. it seems fitting. Alice and I did rag on him a bit and ultimately decided he looked like an English Professor... you know because English Professors all look the same! LOL
