Ideal Patti PlayPal dolls were made in the 50's and 60's, I think there was a resurgence in the early 80's as well. These dolls can walk, and some of the smaller sizes could talk.
They are interesting because the Ideal company wanted them to look accurate to other toddlers and they did! They stand at 28-38" and there is a whole family of them available. I forget all the names but I know there is Patti, Peter, and Penny PlayPal dolls which stand the tallest.
Last year I took up a great interest in finding these dolls and restoring them. There are two in my family, but chances are I won't get a chance to revive those for anyone so per my mom's request last year I started searching for them online.
Usually in good condition, you won't find them for less than a couple hundred, but I did find a few that were not in great shape which I am happy to restore for less that $50!
I am looking forward to this project and to working with my mom on restoring her dolls. Yes, her dolls. Perhaps we'll resell them, or perhaps we will keep them and I will store them in my loft which is quickly turning into a doll menagerie. My husband is so patient with my doll interests, though he doesn't like them, especially a specific set of dolls which represent my escape from a bad emotional place back in 2015, but still, I am so grateful he is as patient as he is.
With all that said, it dawned on me that dolly hospitals are a thing. I have this desire to become a dolly hospital but maybe I will stick to restoring dolls and customizing dolls. Maybe I will open up an etsy shop and sell dolls and hand made beaded jewelry. I have this vision of my mom and I working together on different arts and crafts for this, like when we had the bridal shop.
But one thing is for sure, I went from being Claudia (Interview With A Vampire) to being the doll maker, or rather collector. =P
Another thing is, these dolls, because they are vintage do not get special customization... You see a lot of the Monster High Doll repaints or Bratz, etc, and they will get customized into comic book characters etc... I wonder if I can, if I should try that on these dolls as I acquire them... Hmmmm....
